Under the patronage of the Honorable President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Honorable Assistant Professor, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Danouk, Dean of the College.
The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit organized a scientific symposium on (Social media, harms and benefits…electronic blackmail)
Present at the symposium were:
-Mr. Awad Hussein, head of the psychological counseling and educational guidance unit at the college.
It was attended by a number of college members
The symposium covered:
– The great development that the world has witnessed with the emergence of the World Wide Web, making the world a small village, and the emergence of social networking sites and the characteristics of these sites. The symposium also touched on the questionnaire that was conducted on college students to determine the negative and positive effects of social networking sites on university students.

Social networking sites are a double-edged sword. Despite the benefits that we obtain through the services provided by social networking sites in the fields of education, news, propaganda, community awareness, expressing the thoughts that are on a person’s mind, and a means of exchanging ideas, information, knowledge, and developing creative skills, If it is used in a negative and wrong way, this will reflect on its user, and it may lead to a lack of privacy in practical life and cause a lot of time wasted and wasted turning pages to no avail, which may distract the student from his life, studies, and duties, and may lead to him becoming isolated from people and being exposed to diseases. The symposium aimed to: – Introduce social networking sites, their types, and their positive and negative effects on university students in light of the great development we are experiencing in the field of information and communications technology.
The symposium came out with the following recommendations:
Social networking sites must be employed so that they are a positive and effective communication tool among students, raising awareness of the danger of social networking sites and their negative effects if they are not used correctly, and moving towards their optimal use and benefit.
