The Department of Construction and Building Technologies – Architectural Conservation and Sustainable Buildings Branch at Northern Technical University, Al-Hawija Technical College, was established in 2025. The department aims to prepare specialized technical personnel in the fields of construction and modern architectural engineering. It focuses on training students in sustainable building techniques and the preservation of architectural heritage in engineering projects. The department provides an advanced learning environment that combines theoretical study with practical application in laboratories and field projects. The training program includes studying sustainable building design and the use of environmentally friendly materials. The department emphasizes equipping students with skills in urban planning and the maintenance of heritage buildings. It admits 20% of top graduates from equivalent institutes and 10% of top graduates from vocational studies, ensuring the quality and competence of trainees. The department seeks to promote scientific research in sustainable buildings and modern construction technologies. It also participates in workshops and conferences related to architecture and sustainable construction. The department aspires to contribute effectively to the development of the construction sector and the preservation of urban heritage in Iraq.

  • Program Objective:
    The primary goal of the program is to prepare specialized technical personnel in construction and modern architectural engineering, with a focus on preserving architectural heritage and applying sustainable building principles. The program enables graduates to contribute to the development of sustainable construction projects and heritage building maintenance by providing high-level technical solutions in design, implementation, and maintenance, while enhancing research and urban planning skills.

    Study Pattern and Duration:
    Bachelor of Construction and Building Technologies – Architectural Conservation and Sustainable Buildings Branch, spanning four academic years, with two semesters per year.

    Learning Environment and Course Assessment:
    The program is taught in Arabic and English on campus, with study materials and recommended readings provided to help students understand core concepts in construction and sustainable architecture. Assessment includes exams for each course, midterm exams, project papers, and a final exam conducted at the end of each academic year.

    Graduation Requirements:
    Students must complete (47) courses and research projects, in addition to (157) credit hours successfully.
